Kids Can Sew ages 9+ Continuous Weekly Lessons

Your child can learn the basics of sewing using the time tested Kids Can Sew Program. Perfect for Elementary and Junior High aged students. Students will learn to confidently use a sewing machine, select fabric and notions, cut out a pattern and perfect seam allowances and finishes.

Projects in the Girls first level include drawstring bags, tops, a skirt, pants (perfect for PJs) a dress and a pillow. Teen/Adult and Boys packets vary slightly.

Students will use one of my studio machines and tools during class.

Students will purchase their own fabrics and project elements. I feel VERY strongly about students making their own design choices. The student is the designer and should see a project through from start to finish.

Tuition is $50 per class with a $60 pattern packet fee that should last for 9-12 months of projects. Pattern packets are available in Girls, Boys and Teen/Adult sizes. Other fun projects can be chosen from the pattern pantry to supplement the course.

Summer 2025 Kids Basics of Sewing Workshop ages 9+

Come and learn the basics of sewing. In this fun and easy 8 week session beginners will learn how to safely operate a sewing machine. They will also learn to seam and finish fabric.

Classes will be held once a week, in 2 hour sessions; Wednesday mornings from 9-11 AM in my basement studio in Highland. Being able to navigate stairs independently is a must.

Class is currently limited to 4 students  Cost is $50 per weekly session, paid monthly by the first lesson of each month. Classes start June 4, 2025 and end on July 30, 2025.

You can then determine if your child would like to continue during a fall session (dates to be released) and start the Kids Can Sew Program*.

Students will use one of my studio machines and tools during class.

Parents will be responsible for helping their students to buy fabrics and notions (I will send the required list of items in advance). Students need to come each week prepared with the proper supplies for class. I feel VERY strongly about the student choosing the fabrics. LET THEM BE THE DESIGNER and you will have a happier, more fulfilled student. I do my best to keep this portion easy, fun and affordable.

We will start with small projects such as a toiletry organizer, pillowcase, zipper pouch, bag and apron. Students use a variety of different fabrics & projects to learn foundational skills and master sewing techniques in a fun and engaging way.  My goal for this class is that the students become comfortable using a sewing machine while making their ideas come to life.

Attendance for this limited 8 week course is critical. I don't give refunds once the session has started. I will consider makeup lessons on a case by case basis. If you want to learn to sew, but need a little more flexibility in the schedule, check out my weekly, continuous classes.

*After completing the summer session, and if the student is interested in continuing lessons; the student will start the Kids Can Sew level one curriculum for a registration fee of $60. (which includes all the patterns for approximately one year) in addition to monthly tuition. Think of this fee like buying the next level of piano books for your piano student. This fee is non refundable. The pattern package includes patterns for many projects (pants, shirts, skirts, dresses, purses, bags, and pillows). Students use a variety of different fabrics & projects to learn foundational skills and master sewing techniques in a fun and engaging way.

Basics of Quilting Class

Come with a friend (or three) and choose five 3 hour sessions that work for you!

Come and learn the basics of quilting while completing this table runner, which is a small version of this quilt. In this fun and easy class beginners and those with some experience will learn accurate cutting, piecing, border and binding techniques. I will professionally longarm quilt your quilt (at no additional cost to you, a $50 value) between weeks 4 and 5 so you can be ready to learn binding techniques in week 5.

Classes will be held in 5 sessions (each 3 hours long) in my basement studio. Being able to navigate stairs independently is a must.

Class is currently limited to 4 students and offered at a discounted cost to help troubleshoot common quilting problems.

Cost for all 5 sessions is $150.

Bring your own (working, clean and oiled) sewing machine or sign up to use one of my studio machines. Using your own machine is the best way to become comfortable with how your machine works. You will get the most accurate and predictable results if you use the same machine in class and at home.

Each session builds upon the class prior, so attendance is important. By the end of all 5 sessions, you will have a FINISHED table runner (this may require some work outside of class time to keep pace). But don't stress, if you fall behind, no worries. Life happens. Please come to class no matter your project status to learn the NEXT step you'll take. I don't offer makeup lessons. I also don't provide refunds once the course has started due to limited class space.

You choose the fabrics and make a quilt that is uniquely you. You are required to purchase the pattern, fabrics and necessary notions prior to class (I do my best to keep this portion easy, fun and affordable).
