FREE Intro to Using a Sewing Machine

For anyone (aged 9 and up) who would like to learn to use a sewing machine independently. I will hold a FREE introductory sewing workshop monthly (one free session per student).

This is a $50 value and a great way to gauge you or your child's interest in sewing.

All supplies will be provided by me. We will use my studio machines.

FREE sessions are 2 hours long. Students must be at least 9 years old.

Choose ONE of the following dates in 2026:

  • Wednesday September 16, 4-6 PM

  • Saturday October 24, 12-2 PM

  • Thursday November 12, 6-8 PM

  • Saturday December 5, 2-4 PM

I have 4 spaces per session. Once a session is full, you can be placed on a waiting list and notified if space becomes available.

You or your student will learn to safely use a sewing machine by threading, pivoting and following a seam allowance during this 2 hour session.

Kids, Teen & Adults Can Sew Weekly Classes

In this fun and easy class beginners will learn how to safely operate a sewing machine. They will also learn to seam and finish fabric. We will use the Kids Can Sew program to sew items such bags, pants, stuffed animals, pillows, skirts, and a variety of tops. Students will learn foundational skills and master sewing techniques in a fun and engaging way.  My goal for this class is that the students become comfortable using a sewing machine while making items that reflect their personal style.

Classes will be held once a week, in 2 hour sessions; in my basement studio in Highland. Being able to navigate stairs independently is a must.

Class is currently limited to 4 students who are at least 9 years old. Teens and adults are also welcome. Cost is $50 per weekly session, paid monthly before the first lesson of each month. A $60 packet fee will be charged at enrollment to purchase the Kids Can Sew pattern packet. This packet lasts for 9 months to 1 year with occasional supplemental projects of your students choosing. Projects take several lessons to complete, students DO NOT finish a project each week. Packets are available in kids and teen/adult sizes and are available in advancing levels- just like piano books.

Students will use my studio machines and tools during class.

Parents will be responsible for helping their students to buy fabrics and notions (I will send the required list of items in advance). Students need to come each week prepared with the proper supplies for class. I feel VERY strongly about the student choosing the fabrics. LET THEM BE THE DESIGNER and you will have a happier, more fulfilled student. I do my best to keep this portion easy, fun and affordable.
